The von Knorring family was registered in the Swedish House of Nobility in 1756, but belongs to an ancient aristocratic family line established in Sweden, Finland, Russia, Estonia, Latvia and Germany. Family members are now scattered throughout the world.
The Swedish and Finnish family societies have recently published a family chronicle together with the Genealogical Society of Finland, giving the complete family history, all branches and members since the 12th century included. The book, by Pontus Möller, Karl Johann Paulsen and Gotthard von Knorring, is called ÄTTERNA KNORRING, and can be obtained through the Genealogical Society of Finland or through the family societies.
Much of the information on this web-site is taken from the family chronicle, though it still represents a mere fraction of the 400 page book. Many thanks to the authors of the book for all their work, to the active members of the family societies who have contributed and to Peter von Knorring in Helsinki, who has completed the publication. And thanks also to Moira von Knorring for giving my English translation a finishing touch.
These pages contain brief information on the family history, together with maps and illustrations of our places of origin in Germany, the family coat of arms and the medieval seals, and some examples of famous family members and estates. There are plenty of links between the different pages to make your reading easier.
Welcome!
