Laramie, Wyoming

Laramie, Wyoming, saw many Swedish settlers. Possibly the landscape reminded them of home, and many found work on the Union Pacific Railroad.

At least two branches of the Elg family found roots here. Alexander Johnson (Elg) and his wife, Sophia, settled on a ranch at the foot of Jelm Mountain on the Big Laramie River in 1879. The ranch is still in the family, today owned by Everett and Margaret Johnson. Margaret has written a wonderful history of the Johnson ranch.

Christina Elg/Bork, her daughter Emma Fredrika & son-in-law John Larsson Lindstrom moved to Laramie, Wyoming, after Christina´s husband Johan Bork passed away in Sanders County, Nebraska. The farm where they settled in Laramie, at Tie Siding, is 25 miles east of the Johnson ranch.
