A portable logging layout

I plan to test the waters first with a small portable layout. Some have suggested that I should design it to be incorporated later into a larger home layout. There are two reasons I do not plan this:

• This is built to learn and test new methods. Hopefully my skills will have developed when it is time for the big one..
• In order to make it interesting to operate, I have crammed features into the portable layout more tightly than I would realistically want to. One of the main attractions for me of a larger layout is to give a better sense of space, not to fit in more stuff..

Room sized layout ideas

When we bought our house 22 years ago, its main attraction to me was a 17'10" by 12'7" room the ideal size for a moderate layout (that was also how my wife put it to me..). Well, the best laid plans of mice and men... The room was soon occupied by our young daughter instead. The daughter has finally shown signs of growing up, so in the foreseeable future the room might revert to its original, noble purpose. I have drawn up a few track plan variations to fit this room.
